What is aging?

Physiological Aspect of Aging
As the body ages, various systems gradually decline in function. Common signs of physiological aging include dry and sagging skin, the appearance of wrinkles and age spots, and progressive thinning, graying, and loss of hair, leading to reduced hair volume. Hormonal changes also occur—with decreased estrogen levels in women causing menopausal symptoms, and declining testosterone in men potentially affecting muscle strength and sexual function.
Loss of muscle mass and bone density leads to reduced physical strength and increased risks of falls and fractures, while joint degeneration may result in stiffness and pain. Sensory functions such as vision and hearing also tend to deteriorate with age. In addition, weakened endocrine and immune systems slow down metabolism, making fatigue more common and increasing susceptibility to chronic diseases and infections.
However, appropriate exercise, balanced nutrition, and proactive health management can help slow down these aging processes and improve overall well-being.
Psychological Aspect of Aging
With increasing age, the decline in memory and slower cognitive responses may cause frustration and a sense of helplessness in daily life and learning. The awareness of physical aging can also impact self-confidence, leading to feelings of anxiety, sadness, or even depression. Furthermore, the loss of loved ones or progressive physical decline often triggers fear of illness and death. Without adequate psychological support and companionship, older adults are more likely to experience loneliness and a sense of being overlooked.
